Spinner games really do work – they help learners to practise and understand spelling rules in a very multisensory.
Which is why it’s a shame that, until now, most spinner games for spelling rules have been designed for younger children and feature childish pictures that alienate older learners.
Hands On Spins’ crisp design and clear typography and will engage your older students with learning and help them get to grips with essential spelling rules. Each tin contains 6 interchangeable cards. We’ve included 2 spinners in each tin so that you can use two cards at the same time (or keep one as a spare).
We have plans to introduce more Spins later this year. If you have any suggestions, please do get in touch. In the meantime, it has been terrific to hear how Spins have been helping in your day-to-day teaching:
One Learning Support Co-ordinator at a Sixth Form college has been using them with great success to teach a student who had missed significant chunks of schooling because of serious illness. This student had vast gaps of knowledge missing, especially in lower level knowledge such as spelling rules and basic writing skills. This multisensory approach of Hands On Spins has given this learner real strategies and thinking skills that he is now able to transfer to all areas of his learning.
- The consensus of opinion is that Spins are a boon for teaching specific spelling rules – and you love their sturdy tins. Teachers say the resources are affordable, appropriate and engaging.
